It was a busy day at college with plenty going on and a video to record. Set up the entire circus and finished of some details.
Today we were able to record the CCTV video that will be shown at the end or the circus. The scene involves a chase where Beast Connor attacks and kills Ring Leader Jamie. I'm unsure if I am in this video, but I was performed during the recording. The film isn't perfect, but black and white editing will mask the rough details.
I set up my performance and got into costume. The scene and performance has come together nicely and was able to scare Sonia even though she was fully aware of my act. I have no problem performing in various styles and delivering a jump scare with a powerful terror shout. Therefore I am confident I will deliver an effective performance come Nov 5. This is the 'stage' where I really start to enjoy the process and start getting more into character.
I enjoyed reviewing the full performance. Jamies introduction sets the tone and makes an ideal ring leader. His performance tells a story making it immersive and not just about quick scares. This sets up for the overall performance as each act is unique and contrasting. The jump scares put people on edge but different performances have different psychological effects. Playing with the imagination, paranoia, phobias etc are also effective in enhancing the terror factor. Even if we do not scare one person on the day, I think we have created an impressive circus setting, a varied tour and quirky acts. However, with our setup and practice, we will be successful.
There are still things I need to look at in order to refine the performance and perfect the performance. The main issues are (some typical for an actor):
Hair (typically): The wig is causing some issues with visibility. It's not a massive issue in a lit room, but in the shadows, with blue/green light, behind the curtain, behind the screen, visibility is compromised. On the day, with makeup, my face will not be as covered, so hopefully this will help. The hair is also difficult to manage, so I will need to try and work more with it so it is performance friendly. There is no longer any issues with security after I spent time adjusting the elastic straps. I will still do more to ensure this is not an issue on the day.
The Jump: Although the jump is effective, I need to work with the drape or find an alternative solution such as a separate sheet that I can drop or rise from. The issue arises from folding the drape around me, or entering via the Velcro. There are some spare heavy drapes available and they are ideal due to their weight. This means they will drop quickly and not cause any restriction. I will try this the next time we are in class.
