Back at college for another term of drama and excitement. It was great to back and I am feeling sharper than last term. The new term is focused on learning and performing a sequence of plays by the writer/actor Harold Pinter. These plays are short but complicated. There is a lot of play on words, such as play revolving around the discussion of various manufactured goods with funny names.

This will be interesting and challenging as 2 of the parts are female characters. However, as the plays are in the absurdist style, it is not so unusual and possibly even normal for this style. Absurdity is a comedic style and troupes such as Monty Python have been influenced by it. The main actors of Monty Python are male and will switch genders for comedic value. This is opportunity to break inhibitions, to play on voices and different chracteritics. I need to understand the characters I am playing in order to deliver a believable performance.
We also need to apply techniques of Stanislavski when developing characters. The script and characters will need to be analysed. Factual information and subtext needs to be pulled from the script and used. I will need to read through the script to find the factual details to gain an understanding of the characters world and actions. I need to understand the Units, objectives and super objectives of the characters.
