Thursday 07/10/2021 Trial Run

Updated: Jan 13, 2022

I went in to help with setting up the circus. We were able to accumulate some additional screens for our performance. With the screens, netting, various bits that we have pieced together such as the cage, we able to create tunnels and spaces for the performers. The circus tour is coming together and feels claustrophobic. It's unreal how we have filled the space in such a short time.

Each performer knows roughly there location so we set up a trial run to demonstrate our acts. Even though my performance is still rough, I was able to achieve a scare, even though the audience were aware of my presence. This is a good indication that my act will work in this performance, even if all I achieve is a 'cheap scare'.

There is enough going on to create constant scares, distractions, etc. Ambience and performance are now the main areas to focus on.

I roughly know my characters position. Which will be after Jess (Prophetron) and before Riley (Janitor). I was able to play some ideas of using the curtains to conceal myself. I also hid under a drape during one practice. I think it may be possible to actually conceal myself under a drape on the floor, behind the light.

I need to contribute more in terms of props and scenery. I may make some posters or something that contribute to the ambience. This is all we need now. I need to work more on my characters backstory and add more to the story of the performance.

In class, I now think we need to start working on our performance. The class need to be pushed to the edge in order to make the performance more effective. I am considering playing tricks on the other students in order to get them on edge. I think this performance style is perfect opportunity to tap into the most incarnate, animalistic emotions and energies we possess. This performance can reveal the truth to the audience, the truth being that we all have this within us that’s why we can act this way. This performance also takes us back to a time when we were vulnerable at all times, where paranoia and flight/fight reflexes were essential to survival. A visitor can get a kick from the adrenaline and it's that buzz that people want to feel, that’s the point. I also have my addiction to adrenochrome to feed, hopefully my performance will be satisfactory in producing ample quantities.
