Unit 19 Task 3 Rehearsals

Updated: Jan 13, 2022

Conception of character ('rough concept), performed in 'living' character

'Diva ish' character. Accident prone.

Non costume early concept of 'jump'

Even though I was clearly visible and not in costume, I was still able to create some shock with my jump.

Solo Rehearsal

Having devised a rough character concept for my performance, I needed an idea of how to perform the act. By practising with lighting techniques and a towel, I was able to create enough contrast to hide and jump from nowhere. I also spent time working on various sounds effects and voices, but mostly wanted to make animalistic noises. I was able to develop my further beyond the jump by practising in this manner

This was a great rehearsal. From this rehearsal I was able to get a good indication that my performance would work. I received a good reaction from Jamie even though he was aware of my jump. I was only in basic costume, not painted the scenery and also highly visible.

Recorded Run through with additonal costume and scenery touches.

This rehearsal provided with detail into the effectiveness of my performance. It has a visual effect that is alluring. It is creepy and mysterious and a visitor you are caught off guard by Jamie's story. I was able to achieve a good jump scare even though the 'visitors' were 100% aware of my performance. I like how my character looks from behind the screen and I look much larger and intimidating than normal. I also got to the the other students performances from a different perspective. I felt the each act linked together and contributed to the whole. Jamie performance is pivotal and is important to creating our own unique style of performance. His story telling and tempo contribute to suspense and he also also able to add improvised scares at will. If I go on to produce a fright mare style performance in the future, I will make use of a story teller, ringleader, or even narrative plant, to dictate the flow of the performance and contribute back story.
