The musical revolves around the character of 'the beast' as a punishment for imprisonment and treatment of Belle and general arrogant nature. The drama within the story involves his inner conflict, learning to change within and too learn to love Belle. It is only when he undergoes an external transformation will change externally.
'If I can't love her' is a song that represents the inner turmoil of 'the beast'. He is a prince but also a beast. His body is distorted and he has changed to an animal like appearance. The song refers to the conflict within. The Beast is looking within himself for his heart and soul. He is relating to his feelings and emotions, or the lack off. Although he initially only sees himself superficially, towards the end of the song he is beginning to find himself. With the last verse of line of the song, "If I can't love her, let the world be done with me..".
I choose this song as I came to use it through my song training. I had been torn between Circle of Life and If I can't love her. I was unable to learn Circle of Life in time for the showcase, so instead I have remained with this song to be representative in this section for family entertainment. I like the style of the song. It has spoken parts and also the more intimidating part. I can relate to inner conflict within this song and the feelings associated with not being able to be with the person you love.

Song Progress
Even though I am still new to the song at this point, it was useful to spend time playing in the theatre. I was mostly able to stay in time with the music.
Finally learning the song. I know the pattern and shape of the song. I have been too technical or trying to being to be too clean and pure. I have learned that I needed to smooth my voice by using a pop/rock style. Combined with technique and training, this is a more natural voice to use and makes it easier to stay in key. This style works for the song. I also needed to apply speaking style of singing which allows me to work from spoken style to singing.
If I can't love her
This is a song that I have been learning over the term. The song has been part of my training and has encouraged me to find my own voice and interpretation. The song is a song I like performing as it has a range of vocal style. There are some spoken parts, some rock/pop sections, some belt sections, some that requires aggression, some technical and some highs. I still feel I can perfect this song over time and I happy with my interpretation.
