The musical of Hamilton, revolves around the life of the US founding father, Alexander Hamilton. He is an influential figure from US history and was involved in writing of the declaration of independence. Hamilton had a 'interesting' life, and the story includes some of his background as part of the play. The style of the performance is unique, as it uses mostly a hip-hop/rap style of performance. The performance breaks the mould, by also including many Afro-American performers in roles such as George Washington. These characters were of European ancestry in real life. The use of Afro-American performers adds greater context to the performance, as the stories background takes place during a time of anti slavery movement. Although we are still far from perfect, it is a sign of progress.
As I wanted to perform a song from the musical, I chose 'You'll be back' because it is is one of the only solo performances in the show. The music is catchy and similar style to other songs I have heard. Some other students in the class also like the song. The song refers to the relationship between the King and the US government. The US is aiming to gain independence form the British Monarchy. The song is a message to the US of their position and what happens if they decide they want to confirm independence. The message/song starts fatherly, as if the king at been supportive and their to help them. The second parts refers more to the oppressive and arrogant side to the king.

Lyrics:
Song Progress
For this song, I have been able to pick up on the style and figure out the shape of the song. I feel my version is coming close to completion. It is a song that requires use of singing technique combined with a pop style of singing. The pattern has been easy to pickup but I still struggle to remember some of the verse. I feel I do not have to place too much characterisation the voice whilst using the pop/rock style of singing. The challenge in this song is the various highs and application of technique has been important. The end of the verses before the 'da da's'. With the singing technique I have learned over the term and general increase in confidence whilst performing.
Final Version
This is a song which I was able to quickly pick up the beat of the song and felt I was able to interpret the song. However, despite this, there are some challenges sections of the song, particularly where the tempo of the verse changes and a line needs. Once I got over this, I felt I was able to perform the song to a reasonable level.
